  1. I really appreciate how balanced you are with things like this. I had stopped using lasers years ago because of all the reasons you mentioned. However these days I have mobility issues so Iโ€™ve been trying to come up with ways to play which I can manage and still have an actively playing cat. I had wondered if using a laser and transitioning to another toy might work.

  2. My cat is amazingly smart and unique in her behavior (not just my biased view as her daddy, countless others have noticed her idiosyncrasies and intelligence all on their own) and she _loves_ the laser pointer, so I highly doubt the preference for playing with the laser or ignoring it has anything to do with cognitive function of your cat. This being said, she has become *obsessed* with it. The laser is all she wants to do now. I walk in the door and she’s looking down at the floor and searching communicating she wants me to operate the laser for her. She understands it’s me doing it, but she also understands I’m the only one who can make it happen. She’s been waking me up in the middle of the night wanting to play. She’s just not chill anymore. No matter what I’m doing she’s pacing around me and meowing for the laser. I give her alternative attention, like taking her outside for walks, brushing her fur, giving her luvs and kisses, giving her treats like wet food, cleaning her litter constantly which she loves, talking to her, putting on her favorite music or tv program (yes, this is legit, she watches TV with me all the time, or she used to before the laser) and nothing works for long. Few minutes and she’s right back to begging for the laser. I decided it was causing harm if she was so stressed out over playing with it 24/7. I can’t just sit and operate the laser for her with my spare time, and I wouldn’t want to. She’s a cat and she needs to be doing cat things, and the #1 thing cats love to do is _chill_ . She used to, and since that infernal toy came along, not anymore.

So, I stopped giving in to the crying and the sweet little look she does and I’m going to get rid of it I think. It’s hard to deny her anything because I love her so much, and I usually never do, but this one I think I need to be a daddy and do what I think is _best_ for her, not necessarily what she _wants_ . I hope I’m doing the right thing here and it hurts me to take her favorite toy away, but shes not being herself and she’s driving me crazy to boot! โค

  3. My kitten loves the laser pointer so much and it always works, (sometimes wand/feather toys don’t work when we play and he doesn’t burn enough energy off making him eat less) but when I want to finish the session he does get pretty fixated on it. Sadly the method of putting it on another toy doesn’t work, but if I put it on a freeze dried minnow treat from purebites, then he tends to be distracted and try to eat that. It does get him wanting more treats but at least he did kill something. What does frustrate me if if there’s light reflections on my phone that go to the wall… x’D

  4. I purchased an interactive toy that spins and has a lazer. He started acting odd after playing with it. Going to the place and searching for the red dot. Looking at the wall and floor. I’m not sure about it.
